Tierra Destiny Reid: Please give us a brief recap of your career.
Janet Auty-Carlisle: I worked in the retail industry for many years before switching to banking. After my children were born I started my own baby jewelry business. I folded that up and eventually transitioned into owning a relocation company. I was an adjudicator for a federal government board in Canada for 10 years until that position was made redundant. I am now an Arbonne Consultant.
TDR: Please tell us about your children.
JAC: A daughter aged 33 who is a holistic herbalist. A son aged 29 who is a jazz guitarist.
TDR: How are you juggling your passion with the responsibilities of parenthood?
JAC: I have always taught my children that the word no is just a word and so, whatever it is they are wanting to do in life, they ought to do it. To that end we love to spend time together, still, but we all live far away from one another. My passion allows me the financial liberty to visit them more often and to spend time with them when they ask me to come visit.
TDR: What are some of your struggles and how do you work to overcome them?
JAC: I am actually retired, having been made redundant with my last position. As my husband, also retired, and I enter our 60s one thing I notice is a lack of stable income. That can lead to a very limited lifestyle. We are not the only ones in this position and so, that is my struggle, to show others that they too can live an unlimited lifestyle as they begin their retirement.
TDR: What are 2 resources you use to help you stay motivated?
JAC: My OWN Ambassador group. My community.
TDR: What is your favorite way to pause?
JAC: Read by the water.
TDR: What has been the scariest moment or crossroad in your journey?
JAC: Yikes! So many. Being diagnosed with a terminal illness at the age of 40. It turned out to be an error but that took 7 years to figure out. Needless to say much of what life looked like prior to that changed dramatically.
TDR: What would be your greatest advice to other "Power Moms" wanting to pursue their dreams?
JAC: Believe, work hard, ask for help and stay connected to your community of support.
TDR: What word best describes the legacy you want to leave for your children and why?
JAC: Transformation...because I did, they can, it is possible.
TDR: How do you support mothers and other women today?
JAC: I am an advocate for women and children who have left abusive relationships. I am continually educating and empowering other women through my coaching in my Arbonne business. I believe it is essential to be financially independent and that is what I teach. I donate a percentage of all my Arbonne sales to my local women and children’s shelter.
TDR: How can others collaborate and support your mission?
JAC: Taking a look at how Arbonne products are different, they're vegan, gluten free, and do not contain toxic chemicals: good for us and Mama Earth. In addition if they know somebody who is looking for additional income or a new start they could suggest a conversation with me.
