FEBRUARY 29: It’s #LeapDay2016 and we want to enjoy this last day of #BlackHistoryMonth2016 highlighting some Bulldogs who have taken HUGE #LeapsOfFaith.
Tierra Destiny Reid (BSFCS ’03) is the CEO and Founder of The Retail Campus and TDR Brands International. She took a setback from corporate downsizing in 2009, and turned it into her first #LEAP into entrepreneurship and opened Stylish Consignments. This step actually lined her up to find her purpose in empowering women in business! By 2012, she had sold her store and launched TDR Brands International which has led to her being an Oprah Winfrey Network Ambassador, motivational speaker, conference host- including one taking place in SOUTH AFRICA in 2016! She wants all women to "Shine Bright, UNAPOLOGETICALLY!" James “Jay” Bailey (M ’99) recently took his second #LEAP in 2015 by launching the Phoenix Leadership Foundation. After leading Operation Hope, as CEO, in Atlanta to great heights, he saw a need in our community and decided to make a real difference for young Black males. The foundation funds and develops programs providing positive role models and creating leaders. Their goal is to inspire youth to rise from the ashes of their circumstance and soar towards living in their purpose! He brings so much to the table including being only 1 of 8 Americans honored at the White House in 2012 as a “Champion of Change". That is the power, pride and ambition he is pouring into our young men!
Both of these outstanding Georgia Bulldogs have been nominated for the UGA Alumni Association’s 40 Under 40 awards, and have been honored in their communities. While in college they were both active on campus in numerous organizations and their respective sorority and fraternity - Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Thank you Tierra and Jay for having the faith to take the next step, even without seeing the stair. You are inspiring us all to take our own #LeapsOfFaith!
