Belief Screening at Georgia State University

The screening of Belief at Georgia State University last night was hosted by OWN ambassadors Tierra Destiny Reid and Malika Ghosh Garrett as well as GSU Outlet College Ministry.  It was a pleasure sitting amongst students of life’s lessons for we all learned something about others belief and the perfect title “Love’s Story”.  The open discussion was just that, an open discussion! The dialogue was eye opening and very much needed to understand we all have different Beliefs.

There were many that wanted to understand the intent and call to action.  Its simple; to open your minds and think.

“My confidence comes from knowing that there is a force, a power greater than myself that I am a part of, and is also a part of me” –Oprah Winfrey

The students had profound thoughts on the different religions and how love plays apart in all.  There were things that stood out such as the number 7 being so significant in most of the religions.

There were so many quotes that came from the discussion:

“The Bible starts as a love story”

“Activate your belief and release your judgement”

“Practice your faith; don’t just preach it”

“The core beliefs are somewhat the same yet the religions are different"

- Keshea Way, TDR Brands International Lead Brand Ambassador

Meet Jenelle Daniels

TDR Brands International spotlights Power Moms who show inner strength and courage, while simultaneously loving and nurturing family, during the pursuit of their dreams.

Tierra Destiny Reid:  Please give us a brief recap of your career.

Jenelle Daniels:  As a 15 year veteran of the corporate High-Tech industry I've held roles in Customer Service, HR, Marketing, and Executive Administration. For a short while I also spent time in a higher education environment, which allowed me to give back to the community I grew up in. I found as my expertise grew the creativity and level of work I was being provided did not fit into my interests or personal value system.
Family is a high priority for me, yet I've always struggled with finding the right balance between career and home life. This delicate dance lead me to begin building an environment where I could be closer to home. Social media and project management have been integral in my previous roles as I managed the professional lives of highly successful executives and team projects. With the help of web based technology and the digital revolution, I am able to offer my unique expertise to small businesses. Social media strategy, project management, blog coaching, and marketing automation are activities I help clients work through.  I hope to build a successful practice that will support me and the family for years to come.

TDR:  Tell us about your children.

JD:  As a parent with kids over a decade apart, I am constantly finding ways to bridge the generation gap. Much of the effort is in helping a cranky teen, Javin, 17 years old, learn to be empathetic and responsible for a younger sibling; Niobe 4 years old. Javin has had an IEP and has developmental delays as well as focus challenges. Navigating education for him has been rough. Little Niobe has just begun Preschool and is a natural leader and energizer bunny wrapped up in a 4-foot package. They are both a joy and a challenge.

TDR:  How are you juggling your passion with the responsibilities of parenthood?

JD:  Juggle is a great way to put it. I do EVERYTHING for my family. My spouse works late and travels. In addition, he suffers from severe depression which leaves nothing emotionally for the family. So I carry the torch and manage academics, medical, emotional, and caretaking.  I am determined to find a way to stay working virtually and become profitable. As a single Mom with my oldest for 8 years, I remember the challenges of drop-off, pick-up, and corporate rat racing. I really want to be available to my family, yet still build something for myself and them. I split my time as best I can. Kiddie drop-offs, client calls/client work, business building via local networking and online networking. Sometimes I only get 4 hours of sleep, but manage to gauge this as it is not a healthy habit. CREATIVE has been my theme for 2015. I just make a way.

TDR:  What are some of your struggles and how do you work to overcome them?

JD:  Funds to invest in more coaching and marketing. Finding the right clients that value my expertise and work.  A need to become profitable sooner than later. I continue to network using LinkedIn, leveraging other colleagues via private accountability groups, mastermind sessions, and sharing. We all have a dream and keep each other motivated and positive as we live life and build for our futures.

TDR:  What are 2 resources you use to help you stay motivated?

JD:  Prayer and exercise really do help me. Exercise sometimes is just stretching or breathing technique. A GOOD walk gets the job done sometimes. I do what I can.

TDR:  What is your favorite way to pause?

JD:  My AM walk. Breathing in the morning air is so nurturing. It's amazing how the mind is opened and the creativity flows. I keep my spiritual schedule up as well. Oh and of course re-reading sections of the “Power of Peace in a Pause.” It's a go to for me.

TDR:  What has been the scariest moment or crossroad in your journey?

JD:  Today, facing divorce. 10 years of a difficult marriage I am still navigating. Limited support. I'm scared to death, but have faith things will fall into place in due time.

TDR: What would be your greatest advice to other "Power Moms" wanting to pursue their dreams?

JD:  Don't stop. You deserve it. Don't go it alone. Be flexible but don't compromise yourself. It's OK to have a good UGLY cry. We ARE human.

TDR:  What word best describes the legacy you want to leave for your children and why?

JD:  CONNECTION - To me legacy means connecting the past with the future. It makes way for stories to be told, the joys and the hardships. Family legacy anchors our hearts and souls to those whom share the same blood and DNA. Family legacy is something to be nurtured leaving a window into the past for future generations.

TDR:  How can others collaborate and support your mission?

JD:  The blogging community has been great. Sharing best practices, opportunities, or an encouraging word is what will help my mission.

Meet Sabrina Claiborne

TDR Brands International spotlights Power Moms who show inner strength and courage, while simultaneously loving and nurturing family, during the pursuit of their dreams.

"Do something EVERYDAY to work towards your goals."

Tierra Destiny Reid:  Please give us a brief recap of your career.

Sabrina Claiborne:  I have had the honor to work in the Hospitality field for 14 years and being able to meet some of the most amazing entrepreneurs and business people. I have advanced from working as a Front Desk Associate to Assistant Manager to General Manager and to Sales. I am now on the path to enhance my entrepreneur path as the Founder of L.E.A.D (Ladies Empowering and Aspiring Dreamers), A Women's Empowerment Group designed to bring a group of powerful non-competitive women together to share business ideas and help each other grow.

TDR:  Tell us about your children.

SC: I have two children. Devynn, 11 years of age, home schooled and in the 6th grade. His passions are Math and Science as well as skating. He enjoys cooking and martial arts. My daughter, Nila, 4 years of age, enjoys helping to cook with family or in her play kitchen area, "My Little Pony", and is very active and determined at whatever she is doing. She likes her toys, books, etc to be placed neatly in a row, and she definitely enjoys bubble baths with her Hot Wheels and ponies.

TDR:  How are you juggling your passion with the responsibilities of parenthood?

SC:  Juggling between parenthood and my passion to help others and encourage entrepreneurship is finding balance, controlling my emotions to ensure my decisions are in the best interest of my family and not based off emotion, and staying FOCUSED.  I made a decision early this year to leave hotel management to move back to a front desk position just to be able to use more time with my kids, gain the opportunity to Home School and teach them self-employment skills. For me, being able to juggle the two is found within taking time to stop and think about the "Big Picture" and how more of my presence IS appreciated by my family. This was not an "emotion" based decision. This was looking at what is needed to prepare my children with a better future and to enhance my business.  I surround myself with positive motivators and continue to FOCUS on the ULTIMATE GOAL.

TDR:  What are some of your struggles and how do you work to overcome them?

SC:  Some of my struggles are not having the finances to participate in networking events and vending opportunities to grow my business, as well as accepting help from others. I overcome this by putting strategies in place to determine which opportunities are best and taking everything one piece at a time. I provide my own networking opportunities which provide a platform for others who want to grow. With trusting others, I am currently still struggling with this position. I search deep within an individual to ensure their passion for the task is just as great as mine.

TDR:  What are 2 resources you use to help you stay motivated?

SC:  Two resources I use to help me stay motivated are music and my children. Positive motivating music keeps me happy and my children help me remember how much I want them to succeed and KNOW not to give up no matter how hard the obstacle may seem.

TDR:  What is your favorite way to pause?

SC: Unfortunately, I don't have just one. I barely get to pause, so there are a few different ways. One of my favorite ways to pause is to have the house to myself. I can say that I enjoy when I can be home and there is silence for me to watch a movie, take a bubble bath, sleep (something most moms don't have an opportunity to do) or meditate about the next level in my life for myself and my family.  Another one of my favorite ways to pause is to spend time with my family with no electronic devices and just watch my children PLAY.... PLAYING is necessary.  And one other way I enjoy pausing is to spend time with inspiring, motivated, and determined women - this can be dinner, girl's night out, or just a simple visit to a friend's home.

TDR:  What has been the scariest moment or crossroad in your journey?

SC:  The scariest moment in my journey was leaving a management position to hold an hourly position. My thoughts immediately went to trying to figure out how to continue to financially provide for my family. Financial Security plays a large fear in my heart due to my past and struggles as a child.  However, I realized that with the multiple streams of income I already had and the knowledge to increase my business, it would work. Patience is the key.  Now, with changes in my husband's job coming soon after, it is forcing me to put more energy in my passion even with fear of financial security. I continue to use multiple streams of income to provide for my family until my passion has reached its height.

TDR: What would be your greatest advice to other "Power Moms" wanting to pursue their dreams?

SC:  The greatest advice I can give to other Power Moms wanting to pursue their dreams is to know it may seem like a slow process. However, as my husband told me, "Do something EVERYDAY to work towards your goals." I have found this works, no matter how little we think we are doing, it will eventually add up. Also, STAY Positive and surround yourself with positive people. Network, Network, Network!

TDR:  What word best describes the legacy you want to leave for your children and why?

SC:  Responsibility - This legacy is important to leave for my children because it will allow them to be in control of the situation and themselves. It will allow them to make decisions to guide them to achieve success, self-empowerment, and care for others without compromising self. It will allow them to learn self-reliance, and gain the knowledge needed to move towards greatness.

TDR:  How can others collaborate and support your mission?

SC:  The way others can collaborate and support my mission is to provide opportunities for me to give back to the children and teach them. Another way is to share my mission with women and children who need the assistance and provide opportunities for the members of my group to learn and network with others who share the mission. I would love to collaborate with others who are looking to make a big difference with children and how they are taught. I want to teach ENTREPRENEURSHIP. I am here to help others and that is my purpose here on Earth. Bring any opportunity for me to continue to motivate and empower others to NEVER GIVE UP ON THEIR DREAM! Small steps make a big difference.

Meet Janet Auty-Carlisle

TDR Brands International spotlights Power Moms who show inner strength and courage, while simultaneously loving and nurturing family, during the pursuit of their dreams.

Tierra Destiny Reid:  Please give us a brief recap of your career.

Janet Auty-Carlisle:  I worked in the retail industry for many years before switching to banking. After my children were born I started my own baby jewelry business.  I folded that up and eventually transitioned into owning a relocation company.  I was an adjudicator for a federal government board in Canada for 10 years until that position was made redundant.  I am now an Arbonne Consultant.

TDR:  Please tell us about your children.

JAC:  A daughter aged 33 who is a holistic herbalist. A son aged 29 who is a jazz guitarist.

TDR:  How are you juggling your passion with the responsibilities of parenthood?

JAC:  I have always taught my children that the word no is just a word and so, whatever it is they are wanting to do in life, they ought to do it. To that end we love to spend time together, still, but we all live far away from one another. My passion allows me the financial liberty to visit them more often and to spend time with them when they ask me to come visit.

TDR:  What are some of your struggles and how do you work to overcome them?

JAC:  I am actually retired, having been made redundant with my last position. As my husband, also retired, and I enter our 60s one thing I notice is a lack of stable income. That can lead to a very limited lifestyle. We are not the only ones in this position and so, that is my struggle, to show others that they too can live an unlimited lifestyle as they begin their retirement.

TDR:  What are 2 resources you use to help you stay motivated?

JAC:  My OWN Ambassador group. My community.

TDR:  What is your favorite way to pause?

JAC:  Read by the water.

TDR:  What has been the scariest moment or crossroad in your journey?

JAC:  Yikes! So many. Being diagnosed with a terminal illness at the age of 40. It turned out to be an error but that took 7 years to figure out. Needless to say much of what life looked like prior to that changed dramatically.

TDR:  What would be your greatest advice to other "Power Moms" wanting to pursue their dreams?

JAC:  Believe, work hard, ask for help and stay connected to your community of support.

TDR:  What word best describes the legacy you want to leave for your children and why?

JAC:  Transformation...because I did, they can, it is possible.

TDR:  How do you support mothers and other women today?

JAC:  I am an advocate for women and children who have left abusive relationships. I am continually educating and empowering other women through my coaching in my Arbonne business. I believe it is essential to be financially independent and that is what I teach.  I donate a percentage of all my Arbonne sales to my local women and children’s shelter.

TDR:  How can others collaborate and support your mission?

JAC:  Taking a look at how Arbonne products are different, they're vegan, gluten free, and do not contain toxic chemicals: good for us and Mama Earth. In addition if they know somebody who is looking for additional income or a new start they could suggest a conversation with me.

Meet Shyreeta Benbow

Meet Power Mom Shyreeta Benbow

Power Mom Feature Images (13).png

TDR Brands International spotlights Power Moms who show inner strength and courage, while simultaneously loving and nurturing family, during the pursuit of their dreams.

“Our storms are our challenges. If you make it through the storm, you become several steps closer to succeeding.”

Tierra Destiny Reid:  Please give us a brief recap of your career.

Shyreeta Benbow:  I've been in the Healthcare field for 15 years as a medical biller and coder. I love what I do but I never saw it as a job to retire from. I've always been what they call a "hustler." I was a teen working for the railroad sophomore year of high school and purchased my first vehicle at 15 years old. I made money doing braids, watching kids, selling snowballs, selling candy door to door and so on. I co-owned Envision This Event Management Inc. for over 3 years. We planned and managed events and sold event props at wholesale prices. I volunteered for non-profit organizations, small businesses needing odds and ends done in order to familiarize myself with how a business should be ran, and I invested in small projects as well. In turn, I was asked to explore another business venture. This was a venture that I had already had experience with, importing products overseas. My friends, one of which owns a successful cosmetics line (packaged overseas) and the other that owned a popular boutique (clothes imported from overseas). Collectively, we share over 10 years of experience in importing goods from other countries. Our passions are to help people. Particularly, small businesses that were on the brink of closing due to high overhead expenses. We decided to do some research on the demand import/export agents, regulations/requirements, customs/duty rules, and certified freight forwarding. After doing so, we found that there was a lack of women and knowledge in this area and we were willing to accept the challenge of becoming the ones to do so. We saw that people needed our assistance importing item specifics at wholesale prices, starting or maintaining a business, product development, branding, packaging a product, and their shipping needs. In 2012, we formed our own company, iBrand Matchmaker Int'l Trade Co. At that time, we started travelling to different cities in China in order to experience the hands-on approach of quality assurance within a factory. We've done so, every year thereafter. In 2014, we decided to host China trips for individuals wanting to travel alongside us to experience the process hands-on. We were our own guinea pigs. By stepping out, we broke barriers that people wouldn't have the heart to do. By doing so, we have extended our business. We now have a 100% herbal stimulating hair oil named, ‘Oh My, Miracle! Hair Oil’, which is formulated by an Indian doctor, a unisex hat line named, ‘Crown Kandy Hats’, backed by celebrities like Nick Cannon, Coko Clemons, Twista, Do or Die, and Jennifer Hudson's husband, David Otunga; a scented nail polish kit for teens named, ‘Bella Colori’, mascots for a children's book, and a packaging for the make-up line, ‘SoShe Cosmetics’. I'm proud to say that this is our niche'. As an individual, I refuse to stop here. I'm aspiring to become a non-fiction author so that I can inspire and empower people. Again, my purpose is to help and not hurt people.

TDR:  Tell us about your children.

SB: My son, Elijah is 14 years old. He's articulate, creative, outgoing, funny, and smart. He loves to sing, dance, draw, and stay at home and play video games. His favorite subject is English. My daughter, Amari is 1 month away from turning 16 years old. She is caring, loving, a bit shy, smart, helpful, assertive, and ambitious. She loves to travel, watch movies with her grandmother, cook, sing, dance with her brother, and rap. Her favorite subject is Math.

TDR:  How are you juggling your passion with the responsibilities of parenthood?

SB:  I make everything work by planning ahead and communicating with my team. If my children are at practice for sports then I use that time to get on a conference call, send emails, track shipments, and to communicate via WeChat with my assistant. I'm employed currently but my office is 7 minutes from my job. I utilize my lunch break to go to the office and check in or meet clients. My daughter has been taught to cook real meals by my aunts, my mom, and myself. We prepare dinner together so I don't plan anything around our time spent together. I plan outings very often for my children and I don't allow business to supersede our plans. Balance had its struggles at one point in my life but I was determined to learn how to schedule my time accurately.

TDR:  What are some of your struggles and how do you work to overcome them?

SB:  Traveling out of the country during the school year and needing someone to care for my children. I had to organize a day to day schedule for my mother and my brother who are both employed full time. I set what days and who would either drop off or pick them up, draw up a second schedule for sports including Saturdays and Sundays. Buy food for home and my mom's house, leave emergency money and spending money (budgeting ahead is a must), notify the schools (they were in separate schools) of my absence, and coordinate my sleep schedule because the time zone difference is 17 hours ahead. When I'm up they’re sleep and vice versa. With roaming charges, calling home from my cell was not possible. I downloaded an app called WeChat to communicate only in WIFI areas. This app allowed me to call, facetime, text, leave voice enabled messages, record videos, and send photos. I called home at 7 a.m. my time to speak with them in the evening about how their day was and I'd return to my room at 8:30 p.m. to speak with them before they left for school.

TDR:  What are 2 resources you use to help you stay motivated?

SB:  Youtube and books or podcasts.

TDR:  What is your favorite way to pause?

SB: I love to sit quietly by a pond or creek, my car, the kitchen, or the restroom jotting down my ideas and thoughts. I also love to listen to jazz; Robert Glasper is my favorite artist.

TDR:  What has been the scariest moment or crossroad in your journey?

SB:  The scariest moment was when I decided to join my partners in travelling to China. We didn't know anyone there, we hadn't built a network, and we had only 7 months to execute a plan for travel. We didn't know where in China was best to seek out manufacturing companies, where to stay and if it was Westernized, their culture, or how we would get place to place by only speaking English and it not being a primary language there. What we did know was that we wanted to help people by becoming the source to provide small businesses a service that would save them money.

TDR: What would be your greatest advice to other "Power Moms" wanting to pursue their dreams?

SB:  Do not fear taking a step towards your dreams. You will never know your limits if you refuse to step out on faith. Our storms are our challenges. If you make it through the storm, you become several steps closer to succeeding. Plan and execute!

TDR:  What word best describes the legacy you want to leave for your children and why?

SB:  Diligence- To always be persistent in completing a task. Diligence is the virtue of hard work and success is the result.

TDR:  How can others collaborate and support your mission?

SB:  Please visit our website, www.ibrandmatchmaker.com to familiarize yourself with the services that we offer. If interested, contact me by email at ImportAgent@iBrandMatchmaker.com or by phone 773-443-8003.

Meet Tamell Green

TDR Brands International spotlights Power Moms who show inner strength and courage, while simultaneously loving and nurturing family, during the pursuit of their dreams.

Tierra Destiny Reid:  Please give us a brief recap of your career.

Tamell Green:  My professional career began with Children's Defense Fund which has given me my foundation in program development, youth development, and allowed me to always see how I can serve as an advocate for children and their families no matter the career path I have chosen or jobs I have had. I have been able to serve families through program development as Technology Director of the Magic Johnson Empowerment Center in Bennettsville, SC, elementary teacher for Marlboro County and Scotland County School District, and now as the CEO and Founder of my own company, Metamorphosis, an online tech savvy PR firm that caters to Brand Development for Mompreneurs. Creativity is my gift God has purposed me with gifting to the world and He allows me to do it through program development no matter the title I have held.

TDR:  Please tell us about your children.

TG:  I am the mother to 3 of God's most precious gifts! They are Jasiya, 11, Jakayla 7, and Jason II 1. They are definitely my heartstrings. My children are such a great mixture of both their father and I, but I must say that have definitely inherited my gift of creativity and his gift of humor. My daughters also have their own plethora of TV shows on YouTube in which they teach kids how to cook, create DIY projects, tell the news, and interview people about their careers. Their mission is to help kids ages 5-12 begin to explore careers and what they want to do and be in life. They have been going around the community doing their signature Vision Board Parties to help students begin to generate a baseline to begin their exploration.

TDR:  How are you juggling your passion with the responsibilities of parenthood?

TG:  I have been blessed to be able to combine the two, but not without struggle. I love all things technology and teaching people how to do everyday tasks simpler by using technology. I use things such as Google Calendar, Google Drive, and different smart phone apps to keep our family organized with all of our many business ventures and day to day life. I get meal ideas, fitness information, and to stay on track. My husband and I were separated for over a year. How we kept the communication alive during this difficult period is by making sure we were well connected technology wise in order to co-parent during the separation.   Also, being a Mompreneur and a Mom to little entrepreneurs allows me a chance to mentor not only my kids in a different capacity than I normally would parenting.

TDR:  What are some of your struggles and how do you work to overcome them?

TG:  Consistency and Procrastination are my two biggest struggles. I am a great starter, but the procrastination hinders me from being consistent. One way I overcome this is to have my children keep me accountable for things such as eating healthy, daily workouts, and just having task lists to complete.

TDR:  What are 2 resources you use to help you stay motivated?

TG:  Two resources I use to help me stay motivated is my vision board and my Study Bible. My vision board keeps me focused on my goals. My Study Bible helps me to keep boundaries in place and shows me how to receive God's Grace and Mercy. Reading the stories in the Bible tell me that I'm not the first to go through hard times and I won't be the last. It shows me how to get through the rain, but also how to have an expectancy for the rainbow.

TDR:  What is your favorite way to pause?

TG:  My favorite way to pause is to sit on my porch in my rocking chair and just take in the beauty of the Earth. I sit there and truly count my blessings until I have nothing else on my mind but good, positive thoughts.

TDR:  What has been the scariest moment or crossroad in your journey?

TG:  The scariest moment or crossroad in my journey has been going through a separation with my husband. The breakup of our family unit was THE hardest thing for so many reasons and that's what made it the scariest because we had come to such a point that threatened our union, our bond, and our family. My life was changing right before my eyes and I couldn't do anything about it. I felt like I was drowning and no one could hear me gasping for air, but me. How do you save yourself from drowning?

I had to come from knowing the Word to applying the Word. The distance from knowing to applying is a long, hard, journey when you are an emotional wreck. I had to hold on to what I know God told me even when it didn't seem believable anymore. It was hard believing things would change sometimes because my heart was so badly damaged. I continued to ask God for strength and He would send the perfect people (sometimes strangers) to call, text, email, or inbox me on Facebook words of encouragement. I had to keep my mind on God and not on my Husband or my kids. Of course I did what I was supposed to do for each of them, but I was once told that you cannot control other people, but you can control yourself. I took that to heart and became my own project. I sat myself down and said ok, now how would you tell someone else how to start rebuilding their life if they were in your situation and that's just what I did day by day.  I had the hard task of showing my girls how to forgive while also being a victim of domestic violence of their Superman, their Dad, my husband.

I became stronger and more confident day by day. I had not realized that I had become a stranger to myself because I had become so enthralled into my roles as wife, mother, servant, etc until I lost Tamell. I began learning myself all over again at 35. Truly paying attention to me, spending time pampering myself again and not feeling guilty about it. I went back to my bucket list of things I wanted to do and because I had come to the end of the road (no job, feeling empty, and just not knowing what to do), I had nothing to lose so I opened up my parachute and I jumped. I submitted my journey to God and though there were many tears, many setbacks, many wrong turns, I never lost my drive and motivation. I went back to school to finish my Masters, I got on public assistance in order to stand on my feet and provide for my children, I completed the WIA program to get certifications in Microsoft Office and Adobe, and I started my own business. I turned the focus off of my situation and began looking towards what I wanted. What I wanted was my family restored and me being my best self.

Restoration in the sense that we were back together living one big happy life and truly become our TEAM GREEN again. Our restoration may not have looked as people thought it should, but it was working for us. God allowed us to teach our children the power of forgiveness and how to work together even in the midst of trouble. Our kids never missed a beat. Though the separation has been hard on our emotions, it has built our family better and stronger than ever. We've been having family date nights in which we build the vision of what we want our family to look like. Are we there yet? NO, but we have a plan on paper and it has been fun rebuilding our life back together. When I learned that only God could heal my heart, it took the pressure off of us to do what only God could do and let us be free to do what we knew He wanted us to do. We have had a lot of bumps in the road to restoration, but we are doing it, God style. Our scars and our wounds are still there but through prayer and fasting God has been making a way. There were moments that I truly can only explain that GOD DID IT!

TDR:  What would be your greatest advice to other "Power Moms" wanting to pursue their dreams?

TG:  My greatest advice is YOU BE THE EXAMPLE YOU WANT TO SEE. Don't allow your shortcomings and pitfalls take you off the path to your purpose. Your children are ALWAYS watching you in the good times and the bad times. They are looking to see how you handle life and still be who God has called you to be. So do just that...HANDLE IT! LIVE IT! BECOME IT! DEFINE IT! SEE IT! BELIEVE IT!

TDR:  What word best describes the legacy you want to leave for your children and why?

TG:  FORWARD- This word best describes the legacy I want to leave for my children because I want them to know that no matter what comes their way, if it isn't pushing them forward in their God-given purpose, then its not their monkey and not their show...keep moving forward.

TDR:  How can others collaborate and support your mission?

TG:  Others can collaborate and support my mission to help transform the lives of women in their business and their personal lives by engaging with me through social media, inviting me to speak or teach at their women empowerment events, or send technology questions my way so that I can answer their questions via Periscope or YouTube. That will help me to grow my community. Of course they can also help by purchasing my packages because a percentage of those help me with my events that allow me to pour back into women.

Meet Eardie Houston

TDR Brands International spotlights Power Moms who show inner strength and courage, while simultaneously loving and nurturing family, during the pursuit of their dreams.

Tierra Destiny Reid:  Please give us a brief recap of your career.

Eardie Houston:  After earning my Doctor of Pharmacy from Florida A&M University (FAMU), I completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. I then began my career in the pharmaceutical industry as a Medical Science Liaison, which allows me to educate and influence key internal and external stakeholders in the medical community. Currently, I am a Senior Medical Science Liaison with one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies in the world.   As an avid learner, I've continued to set goals for myself. Since beginning my career, I've earned a Master of Business Administration degree, as well as several other certifications. I've also used my experiences to mentor and coach others seeking to begin or advance careers in the pharmaceutical industry.

TDR:  Please tell us about your children.

EH: I am the proud, imperfect, grateful mom of 3 amazing children. David & Joshua are my 4 year old twin bible scholars who believe that the bible stories are about them. Christian is our 1 year old princess, who thinks that everything else is about her!

TDR:  How are you juggling your passion with the responsibilities of parenthood?

EH:  Very carefully. First, I am very fortunate to have a very present and engaged husband. He's my biggest ally in parenting adventure. I also make continuous efforts to trim the fat of my "extra" activities. This means limited television and being mindful of other time stealers. I also believe in the importance of being present. Fully in the moment. This helps me maximize my time with my husband and children.

TDR:  What are some of your biggest challenges and how do you work to overcome them?

EH:  One of my biggest challenges is childcare. While we have the basics covered (preschool, daycare), since we don't have any relatives in our region of the country, it's often a challenge to get childcare outside of school hours. I've learned to be efficient with my time. I utilize evenings when our children are asleep. Also, my husband and I are blessed to have a community of love around us and our children that we're learning to lean on, when appropriate. Definitely still growing in this area, but I find that if you're committed to a goal, the time and resources will become available as I position myself to receive them.

TDR:  What are 2 resources you use to help you stay motivated?

EH:  I find enormous encouragement and inspiration in the Bible. Sounds cliche, but it's so true! This book is filled with so much wisdom. Hard to not feel empowered after reading it.  I also get a great deal of inspiration from other people who are walking in their purpose.

TDR:  What is your favorite way to pause?

EH:  Travel is one of my favorite activities. A nice getaway that allows me to unplug and recharge usually helps when I feel the need to energize and/or gain clarity.

TDR:  What has been the scariest moment or crossroad in your journey?

EH:  I've recently had a period of time when I walked away from my career. I had no long term strategy, no contingency plan, but I knew that it was time to walk away and, well, just pause. Once the panic subsided, I was able to enjoy 18 months away from a high-stress career and relinquish the control that I thought I had over my future. Very scary for a girl like me. However, it turned out to be one of the most amazing things I've ever done.

TDR:  What would be your greatest advice to other "Power Moms" wanting to pursue their dreams?

EH:  Don't believe the myth that your life ended when your child's life began. Rather than viewing your children as an excuse of why you can't do something, use your love for them as the reason why you WILL. What a beautiful example we are for them when we become all that God desires us to become.

TDR:  What word best describes the legacy you want to leave for your children and why?

EH:  “Possible” - As a child, I was told on more than one occasion that my goals were too lofty for a child of a single mother living in the trailer park, that my dreams were impossible; now, I'm Dr. Eardie, it's possible! Growing up in a broken family and surrounded by much of the same, I didn't think it was possible to have a healthy, happy, loving marriage; I'm so thankful to share love and life in ways that I never even imagined. It's possible! A few years into our marriage, I was diagnosed worth infertility. I have since given birth to 3 healthy children. It is possible! Much of the legacy is still being shaped, and I know that much of it will exemplify Matthew 19:26, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
